“When it comes to watching TV and videos I have a short attention span,” says Marcus, a San Jose State University film student. “It helps keep my work interesting.” Marcus does indeed have a short attention span, his first short movie shown in a theater, The Camera Phone shows over 330 photos in less than 3 minutes. “The stills are in sync with the music. Every photo is in there for a reason, when watching it you see something different every time. That's what makes it interesting.” Marcus's first short came by accident in 2002. “My division got laid off. They kept me and some others around to complete the shutdown. We all had our exit dates. One day when testing out a new camera stabilizer I scared the hell out of a co-worker. The pink slip was born. At that time many of us in the valley had gotten laid off. It was perfect timing.” After his exit date, Marcus dove into wedding and event videography. According to Marcus, “shooting and editing wedding videos made me want to make short movies.” Soon after Marcus enrolled into San Jose State University and The Camera Phone was born. |
